Besides being a talented child performer, Shirley Temple {Black] spent much of her adult years as a member of the U.S. government diplomatic corps, so she wasn't to be fooled with....

The dialogue exchanges by the characters in "Airplane!" are just priceless- Abrahams and the Zuckers knew EXACTLY how to juxtapose a serious bedside acting manner with the most absurd and surreal of comedy content. So Nielsen delivers the line with such stiff-upper-lip certainty that you can't help but laugh at it.

There were only 6 eps of the '80s sitcom, "Police Squad!", but all 6 are well-worth digging up! This Abrahams/Zucker Bros production for ABC-TV also starred Leslie Nielsen. I had all 6 on VHS, early-'80s! Best line? Nielsen's Capt. Drebin, undercover to nab a mob boss, jimmies the locked door, and breaks into the bad guy's office. Bad guy, indignant, asks, "Who are you, and how did you get in here?" Drebin: "I'm a locksmith.....and, I'm a locksmith."

On the topic at hand, my mom's middle name was Shirley, and she made sure my bro and I had our share of Shirley Temples (the drink), growing up in the '60s, while she always enjoyed a stinger on the rocks, and I can't remember what Dad drank....probably beer.
