I remember attempting to surf on a wake on a lake, but I also might be remembering someone else doing this. I definitely remember lake water going up my nose at some point. I hope this memory helps.
Your title made me think of Alabama aka Patricia Arquette unseasonably hot, in True Romance. They start in the Midwest — is Detroit Midwest? As a California boy, the rest of the country is a vast beige expanse to me. But they end up in California with Val Kilmer rocking it as Elvis and Floyd aka Brad Pitt bringing surfer stoner vibes. Actually they end up in Mexico but I don’t want to give away the ending.
"Skateboard culture definitely made its way to Minnesota eventually, but surf culture did not."
There is no shortage of lakes, rivers, waterfalls and other bodes of water in Minnesota, but you can't surf on any of them, even in summer.
Oh so you mean like - the OCEAN - has something to do with surf culture? smh
Uh huh. There are very few lakes that have waves big enough for surfing.

That's probably Brad Pitt's best role ever. Alabama Whirley was stupid hot in that film, and for no apparent good reason!
I know what you mean about the middle of the country. Like what's even going on over there besides a lot of corn and really flat stuff?
Fun Fact: I have lived in both California and Minnesota.
