The most realistic and scariest film on this list, by a long shot, is Idiocracy.

Yes, except for the year in which it takes place. It's off by almost 5 centuries.

Whoa! You read my mind! Minority Report is my favorite sci-fi film, mainly because at its heart it’s a really good mystery. Love that movie.

All very very solid films, Andrew! I loved all these films and Mike Judge's work in Silicon Valley.

I also have a favorite that immediately comes to mind for the dystopian list... Never let Me Go. One of the most powerful films i've ever seen.

I think this one goes into the category of perception vs reality. Memories aren't like computer recordings, to say the least!

Since 'The Matrix' made you list, I highly recommend watching "Deeper Analysis - The Matrix | We Need To Go Deeper" by TheFlickFloggers in 2013

part one of two : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayvxSUHAOgc ( 12 1/2 minutes long )

In a world currently dominated by Black Mirror in the dystopian space, this was a great list. Looking forward to revisiting these works

Hey, this is a pretty cool idea. I could write something for this. Does it have to be a Top 5 by the way? I don't mind, just want to know the scope of this thing ;)

I don't think so, but it does present a challenge of sorts. This was originally Dre Labre"s idea, so you could always check with him... but I think we're all pretty laid back at this point.

All of these are amazing! My favorite between them is a toss up between RoboCop and the Matrix.

Those are damn good movies. Also interesting: both have had 4 total movies in the franchise, and none of the sequels or remakes are anywhere near as good as the original.

That's my opinion, but it's also a stone cold fact.

Awesome list, I like the comedic addition of Idiocracy but Robocop is my favorite, I remember playing the Robocop for Nintendo way back in the day. Can't go wrong with the Matrix my best friend and I skipped school to go see it like 4 times or something.

Finally, this time I actually know AND have watched ever entry on the list. It's all about me, you see.

Great picks.

Awesome! What's your fave from the list? Was there one you took a lot away from?

I enjoyed the foreboding atmosphere and the twist in Ex Machina (even though you knew it was coming).

But the Matrix is probably still unmatched on pure entertainment value, cinematography, and philosophical themes. At least the first one in the trilogy (well, quadrilogy now, though I'm yet so see the last one.)

Yeah, the first Matrix film really stands out for me as well. It's the best made of the bunch.

Robocop is one that I sort of thought was cool when I was a kid, then forgot about, then rediscovered much later. It's way better than I remembered it being upon my last rewatch in my 20s or whatever.

Idiocracy has the best intro scene of any movie, ever.

Ex-Machina wasn't as fun to me as "Her", but I know I'm in the minority there. I just thought "Her" was more thought provoking.

Minority Report is too close for comfort.

Oh yeah, Her was a fantastic movie indeed. I haven't watched Robocop in decades and as I understand you get to appreciate the satirical angle a lot more as a grown-up, so maybe it's worth a revisit.

Yeah, and some of the questions it (Robocop) raises are the same universal questions I'd want to ask. It's just more clever than I thought it was.

Great list. Awesome movies, all!

Agree that Idiocracy hits home a little more than I suppose it was intended to...

Here's where I have to admit I haven't seen any of these movies, including The Matrix. It's floating out there on my want to watch list, but perhaps not high enough since it hasn't happened. Lol.

Do it! I think The Matrix might be in my personal top ten (of all genres), but I'm not sure. It's amazing.

Man, the one thing that gets me every time is that Idiocracy takes place in FIVE CENTURIES. I'm like, "y'all mean five YEARS, right?"

ohmygodpleasewatch! Let me know how you enjoy Idiocracy.

The intro is the best scene, but there are some great scenes in the rest of the movie. Terry Crews = perfect as President Camacho, EG.
