I had a useless albeit entertaining comment...although I forgot what it was.
I like the word. Somehow, "He's smart, albeit arrogant" reads differently from, "He's smart, although arrogant."
I see what you mean: "albeit" seems to imply a more positive spin.
I have seen "albeit" being used as a sign of high jntelligence on television, albeit in comparison to others in a young age group.
