I want to say something clever about Bukowski, but let me just say that I really enjoyed his work when I first discovered it some 25 years ago, and I think it had a profound impact on me.

If you want to see Voltaire's philosophy in fictional action, as it often was, his well-known novella "Candide" is a blistering indictment of the Enlightenment, subtly disguised as a young man's search for "the best of all possible worlds".
