"Puberty" - a horror novel by GoatFury. 5/5 pillows. Would recommend.
Is this a good time to bring up the fact that I am not big on horror movies and despite the fact that I know a bit about Carrie, I've never read out watched it?
Dread is perhaps the worst culprit. Gore I'm fine with and enjoy lots of zombie movies. Jump scares are scary but generally a cool adrenaline kick. But when I watched the original Japanese version of The Ring, I couldn't sleep without lights on for a while. I was in my early 20s.
I always find so much that I relate to when i read your posts.
Like you i loved reading horror books before i was old enough to watch the films- as soon as I saw the title i knew you were going to talk about Carrie.
I’ve just published a 3part story on Medium that depicts a girl trying to get advice on sex before her first time (basically a glow up of what i wish id had!)
It’s kind of like your conclusion— I’ll give you friend links if you’re interested
Sure, feel free to post those here if you can! I love the idea of people being able to expand upon my observations (I'm nobody special, just starting the ball rolling), and comments are great for rabbit-hole readers, too.
Stephen King probably would not have become as big as he is now if his wife Tabitha had not persuaded him to expand the story of "Carrie" into a novel. Since he was a high school teacher, he surely witnessed some of the social shunning underpinning the story, and just had to turn the dials up a bit into the novel's plot.

It's a good time, yes. And: you've got plenty of time left to change your mind!
Do all types of horror film bother you equally? Does gore bother you more, or is it more the constant feeling of dread? Jump scares?

That's my favorite type of horror. I used to categorize these as "creepy" - the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
I categorize it as "mind-fucky," since, unlike most jump-scare-based ones, they stick with you way after the movie is over.
My favorites in this genre have been Session 9, Insidious (and Sinister), and Lake Mungo - great films from another era.
Thanks for the warning. I'll stay well away!
Boobies as dirty pillows. Whoa that’s fucked up. 😂
Stephen King tells it like nobody else!

We have to write what we know! Thank you, Tabitha.
