I wasn’t always obsessed with the origins of words. Growing up, it was fun to play with letters and words, but finding out where they had come from felt like one of those things that was hard to find out.
Yep! Marsuipial words are just like that, like how "chicken" has "hick" in there, etc. It's a simple concept, but I think I'm gonna write about it anyway.

Which is what dictionaries are for. However, in certain cases, as with the word "Christmas", the much ballyhooed "true meaning" is either absent or disputed in reality.

Simple is good. NYT Connections daily puzzle sometimes uses similar nesting word commonality for their hardest level (purple).
