Wait, so trees have Internet that actually brings them together and serves as a unifying force?! I'll be damned. They figured it out before us!

Hey now, we also "unify" by looking at the same memes for like 24 hours.

Have you ever heard of crown shyness? It's when trees don't let their leaves touch other trees. It's super interesting and cool. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/what-is-crown-shyness.htm

Also, anytime I read about trees, I swear it makes the book I wrote, Leaves of Fall more and more probably in my mind. LOL

That's awesome (about crown shyness). I can't say I'm surprised at all, but I am nevertheless delighted - I think that's the right word! Trees are very interesting.

Please feel free to link to your book here! You never know who's peeking in here, and someone might be interested. :)

Banyan VINES (virtual integrated network service) was the first network OS I worked on! I can see the box with a huge Banyan tree with a massive network of branches growing into the ground

That's a really cool logo.

I was once contacted about a photo of a Banyan tree that I might have for a book cover. Didn't happen.

I can imagine that; impressive trees. There's a huge grove like 5 acres in India all connected in the largest canopy in the world

AND: A supercolony of ants has been discovered in Europe, stretching over more than 3,700 miles from the Italian Riviera to northwest Spain. Ant colonies behave as 'superorganisms', displaying emergent properties greater than the sum of their individual parts.

Have you noticed tree canopies do not crowd each other in the woods? Having gotten deep into photography (of nature and landscape, not so much people and street scenes,) I really noticed.

Ha! One great thing about writing here and having really thoughtful readers means that we are all participants in a bigger conversation. I love that, and I learn so much here.

I studied ant for this project and others that didn't make publication. This is a great book by EO Wilson.

I met Bert Holldobler at a small presentation on ants, also at Vanderbilt.
