Wait, if "Phoenician" is "purple-people," does that make Barney a Phoenisaurus? (I really need to get out more.)

Barney is still out there? I figure he’d been replaced by Peppa Pig or… something. My kid was into Barney and so we sent a picture of her face in and got a VHS tape back with her *in* an episode. They just inserted this static pic in place of some other kids head; it was terrifying

Yeah, this is the stuff of horror movies! Let's back up a step, though: if "Phoenician" is "purple-people" (It really is!), then someone who eats purple people is a "phoenivore."

I'm not sure what to do with that, but I'm at least a tiny bit proud.

The big question is....was Barney a phoenivore? And if he was, would that make him a phoenivorous Phoenisaurus?

That really does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Can we integrate it into the them song?

"I love you; you love me! I'm a phoenivorous Phoenisaurus, so you'd better not be wearing any of the color usually reserved for royal people. I won't even say the word; that's how much I hate that color even though I am that color also"

Catchy!

"Phoenician means something like purple-people, and the name has stuck over the centuries." So they were the prey of the Purple People Eater?

Yes, the Phoenivore! See other comments for spillover conversation.

That quest for color is crazy. Purple is magnificent. I had (have?) an amazing X-men Jean Grey Phoenix rising cover that I think I sold in my purge a few years ago. I’ll have to check and see if I still have it.

Classic storyline! John Byrne was involved with Chris Claremont, right?

The Phoenicians were the first people to hear the gospel of Jesus and settled what is modern day Lebanon. There is still a Phoenician temple in Baalbek. When I retire next year I am going to Lebanon and will finally see it. Great work and hope all is well.

Steve, that sounds like an amazing trip! You'll have to be sure to take some pics OF YOU there! Everyone takes pics of the cool stuff, but you can already see those online - but pics of you there would be awesome!
