Man, I miss "Tranper Jansmers." Such a good newspaper. Too bad they had to shut it down.

My favorite was probably "Hamberder Times"

Valo(u)r eventually would come to mean displays of courage, particularly from soldiers in battle. In World War I, three men from my hometown of Winnipeg- Fred Hall, Bob Shankland and Leo Clarke- were each awarded the Victoria Cross for such achievements. Consequently, the city changed the name of the street on which they all lived to Valour Road, which it remains today.

Neat! Valor indicates courage for a noble cause too, right?

“…there are activities you’d probably still do even if you were paid very little, but happened to enjoy the activity.”

My husband likes to point out that my hourly rate for writing is a negative number. It’s a good thing I enjoy writing fiction. My writing earned me $65 (gross) income in 2024. (Thank you family and friends who have subscribed!) though I’m hoping 2025 sees an increase in income once my novel is released (ending of March!)

Baby steps! But also: I get so much out of these little interactions. I guess my hourly rate is also negative, and big time!

Funny how a “negative” is really a “positive” 😄

Exactly. A few years back, I was on social media (public facing), and I hated what I saw with little flippant interactions. I just wanted to have meaningful, longer and deeper conversations w/thoughtful folks, but saw social media as the very opposite, even though it seemed like it could have been so great. Well, this place is much closer to that ideal, and it very much scratches that itch for me!

Yesterday I picked my car up from the body shop. The manager was hyping their work and when I thanked him, he pointed to a poster on the wall listing the company Values and read out 'Do the Right Thing'

Oh man! That's pretty close to Google's "don't be evil."

Do they also have a reminder to inhale every so often?

No, but they have fun each day:

- Do the Right Thing: Upholding integrity in all actions.

- Be Inspired to Serve: Demonstrating a commitment to helping others.

- Be Courageous: Embracing challenges with confidence.

- Be Proud: Taking pride in their work and achievements.

- Have Fun Each Day: Fostering a positive and enjoyable work environment.

Those are good maxims, and I'm not even going to be snarky.

Dude was sincere. I worked at BofA for years as a contractor and one of their values stenciled in big letters above the cubicle farms was Inclusive Meritocracy. That place sucked.
