I'm glad you noticed, and I completely agree. This was a helluva night! I was in Sao Paulo, Brazil for a jiu jitsu tournament (and to train, and to party). I was really into karaoke at the time, as I have almost certainly written here - I can dig some of that stuff up if you want to know why, but let's just say I was kind of obsessed.
I had just made out with the lady in the wheelchair, and was rocking out to Sister Christian by Night Ranger. The good times were definitely rolling. This was the divest of dive bars we could find, and I was disappointed it wasn't more seedy... but karaoke!
I was guessing Brazil but now it's even more amazing; how do you make out with someone in a wheelchair!? That picture alone deserves a series of articles. Karoake is rooted in Japanese oppressed salary-men; that seems not you.
My favorite song for karaoke was Mr Roboto, which is super duper ironic now that you mention the "oppressed salary-men" origin story. That being said, I am pretty confident that I was going for irony here.
You may ask, why did this tradition get started? I'll tell you why - I don't know. But it's a tradition… Fiddler on the Roof
So many of our rituals are like this!
THAT is an amazing picture! r/AccidentalRenaissance Where are you?
