Thank you for the fascinating information about the effect of blue colour. It reminds me of old ladies in my childhood (1970s) who would add a rinse to their white hair. It would add a blue, pink or purple tinge to their hair. It was very popular!
It's the sign of the times that, upon reading the title, I was convinced that you were about to discuss the whole "Is the dress blue or white" saga of 2015 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_dress).
Though that one had to do with how we perceive colors based on our brain's assumption about the surrounding lighting, and not so much about adding colors together to cancel each other out. But it's in the ballpark, somehow.
Interesting stuff, I read about something previously. Supposedly the ancient Greeks had somewhere in the vein of 200 words for things we would consider a variant of blue, but not actually the word blue itself.
Yes, both good and bad. I suspect the reason why we don’t use 200 words for things like blue is because we felt it was too cumbersome. Especially when trying to translate into other languages. It’s easier to just translate the word blue.

My childhood was in the 70s too, but I can't remember doodly from that time! I do remember how different hair salons were than today, though.

I was wrong.
This was a fun and edutaining read!
That would have been a great example to use!

Yeah, the illusion aspect. Our brains are tricked by bluing in a similar way to how the devil dress tricks us.
Next time on Goatfury: "Is The Devil Real? This Dress Says Yes!"
Thank you for this light hearted and humorous read.
We were happy to create this one! It was fun.
And then you gave the crazy ladies like myself who turn our hair blue, purple, pink and all the other colors on purpose. 😁
Punk rock!

The language we use to describe color says a ton about us!

i have been seeing ads on instagram for this dark blue toothpaste, sounds like its operating on the same principle!
Likely.
So interesting! You guys are awesome. Andrew, thanks for ensuring I learn something new every day.
Yay! That is 100% why I'm here (and, on the inverse of that, to learn something every day myself). I'm glad you're here!
That color wheel! OMG. I somewhat collect color wheels and would love to know who did that one. Lovely post and collaboration
Thanks, Joyce! Check out my comment on your Notes post. :)
