"You Can't Do That On Television" was a Canadian import- it was made in Toronto and aired on the YTV network here. It was weird as hell.
And you know why Nickelodeon is obsessed with slime? It's because a recurring feature of this show was somebody getting the stuff dropped on them! They took it and ran...
I guess I know Nickelodeon is obsessed with slime, but my head goes straight to YCDTOT when I think about either Nickelodeon OR green slime. Most of the slime-based memes were after my time.
This hits close to home! It reminds of two things from my own childhood, one has followed into adulthood while the other I haven’t thought about in forever. “Can’t isn’t a word” - only conveniently used by my parents when trying to counter my ‘can’t’ arguments, never actually used while I was rebelling against something I was told I couldn’t do. The ongoing one in my head is a double dog dare. Seems I frequently like to ‘double-dog dare’ myself against things I’ve been told I can’t (or shouldn’t) do. Nothing like a good double dog dare to keep life interesting.
The use of personal experience here is highly effective. And the illustration of a baby goat demonstrating the baby powder in the fan trick? Sheer brilliance!
Can't always raises my eyebrows... piques my interest... tickles my curiosity.
For what it's worth, the moment I read the title I immediately went: "Oh yeah?! Who does Andrew think he is, telling me what I can do?!"
Guess I'm an easily-triggered contrarian.
There's a Locke inside all of us.
Don’t can’t me. I won’t. ☺️
You wouldn't.

I was in a Georgian Choir at age 7. I knew that there was nothing on the radio that was off limits.
That must have been really interesting!

The scene from "A Christmas Story" (the triple dog dare) comes to mind immediately!
Dang, Triple dog dare - thats serious stuff. I’ll be on high alert for something worthy of busting out something worthy of a triple-dog dare.
You'll shoot your eye out, kid.

Thanks, Bill! I was a lot of trouble.
